Event Tourism Forum
What are the Lessons from Durban and KZN’s Tourism Experiences?
What makes it one of South Africa’s most sought after Destinations?
The inaugural Event Tourism Forum will take place in Durban from 6-7 July 2018, alongside the Vodacom Durban July 2018, which is one of the country’s biggest events on the social calendar.
It is no secret that the Vodacom Durban July brings 100’s of millions of Rand into the region’s economy and the Forum will unpack the investment strategies made by all the tourism stakeholders to generate these big pay-offs and at the same time using major events to promote a premier destination to benefit the region’s broader economy.
The key discussion theme of the Forum will focus around the potential partnership opportunities that exist for tourism entities during major events and how they could create win-win partnerships to also extract value from out-of-town visitors.
Strategic international partnerships are also a key strategy to assist with the growth of major events and the resultant benefits to a destination and its attractions.
The lessons of these sustainable strategies would be shared and unpacked at the Forum with delegates being able to engage the role players from Durban and the KZN-region, on what it takes to make this part of the country such a desired place for tourists to visit during major events.
According to Gerrit Davids, Director at TaranisCo Advisory, the organisers of the Forum, “the event will lend itself to an open conversation wherein all stakeholders can share ideas and concepts on sustainable strategies on how to partner each other in order to manage the challenges posed by an uncertain and disruptive economy”.
Davids says that “that it is incumbent on all stakeholders to place an intrinsic value on their local assets in alignment with major events to ensure that they also benefit from the increased visitor numbers to their destination”.
The South African Chapter of the soon to be formed, African Lifestyle & Entertainment Event Organisers Association (ALEEOA), will also be launched at the Forum. The Association will be the voice for entities organising events and festivals from segments like sport, consumer, lifestyle, music, film, fashion weeks and social events respectively. Details
The Forum will also feature the SA Events Awards (SEAs) to bestow accolades on the best performing consumer and lifestyle events in categories like arts & culture, sports festivals, comedy, literature, film and TV, generic music, jazz, choral, lifestyle, consumer, dance as well as for local and provincial government respectively. The up-coming African Tourism Awards (ATAs) and the Leaders in Tourism (LITAs), taking place in October 2018, will also be launched at the Forum.
