The African Sustainable Procurement Institute (ASPI)<\/strong> is a pioneering initiative dedicated to advancing sustainable, ethical, and climate-aligned public and private sector procurement practices across the African continent.<\/p>\n

Established by TaranisCo Advisory, a specialist consultancy in Supply Chain Management (SCM), ESG, and procurement, ASPI serves as a continental platform for thought leadership, policy advocacy, and multi-stakeholder collaboration aimed at transforming the procurement ecosystem.<\/p>\n

ASPI’s mandate reflects the growing global recognition that public procurement, representing between 13% and 20% of GDP in many countries and contributes up to 15% of greenhouse-gas emissions.<\/p>\n

It holds significant potential as a lever for climate action and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

The Institute applauds the 35 nations that signed the landmark agreement at COP30 in Brazil, committing to accelerate climate action through the strategic use of public procurement systems.<\/p>\n

Aims and Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n

ASPI’s work is anchored in four core goals:<\/strong><\/p>\n1. Promote Climate-Aligned Procurement Policies<\/strong>
\nAdvocate for the adoption of green and sustainable procurement frameworks that reduce carbon emissions, waste, and environmental impacts.\n2. Build Capacity Across Public Institutions<\/strong>
\nSupport governments, state and private sector entities in aligning procurement systems with global sustainability standards, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals.\n3. Facilitate Regional Knowledge Exchange<\/strong>
\nProvide platforms for sharing innovations, best practices, and policy insights across African countries and sectors.\n4. Drive Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration<\/strong>
\nUnite government, business, academia, and civil society around a shared vision of sustainable procurement reform.\n

Activities and Forthcoming Initiatives<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2026, ASPI will launch a series of regional forums aimed at engaging national, provincial\/state, and local government stakeholders. These forums will explore policy readiness, auditing of capacity gaps, and opportunities for harmonizing sustainable procurement practices across Africa.<\/p>\n

These engagements will culminate in the African Green Procurement Summit, a flagship continental gathering designed to elevate the conversation, showcase progress, and catalyse commitments toward adopting climate-smart procurement policies. The Summit will also create a space for cross-sector collaboration, knowledge generation, and partnership development.<\/p>\n
