Many of us who are entrepreneurs did not grow up in a business family and the spirit of entrepreneurship was a foreign concept to most of us.
Even if your father ran a barber shop and you were roped in at a young age to lend a hand, you could now look back and perhaps value the lessons of managing cash flow and paying creditors.
That learning curve was indeed a solid foundation for your own understanding of what it is to run a business.
The Mentor Club was formed out of a need to hold the hands of all young entrepreneurs who took the decision to start up and move the engines of business and are not sure as to, which road to take, to achieve their aspirations.
These entrepreneurs should not take that road alone while there are thousands of people with the necessary wisdom to guide them on the pitfalls, that they will encounter on that unknown journey of entrepreneurship.
We deliberately have not mentioned ‘business people with experience but ‘people’ in general, since many of us, who have now reached the stage where we are in a position to share our wisdom, should feel welcome to join The Mentor Club.
The Mentor Club’s aims and objectives are to give structured intervention to young entrepreneurs under the aegis of our extended database of mentors through the same concept utilised by Uber and Airbnb respectively.
While these entrepreneurs are searching for their own value proposition in business, we would want our Mentors to guide them to gain an understanding of the processes of how to overcome the proverbial chicken and egg situation. According to a Harvard Business School Case Study, the founders of Airbnb and Uber went for “incubating the egg” rather than the chicken.
Making that decision will become easier for those entrepreneurs benefitting from the wisdom of our valued and esteemed Mentors.
It is with the above in mind that we’ve launched The Mentor Club, which will not operate as an association or member body, but rather on the same concept as Uber and Bolt, where drivers “do the ride” when "nearest and available".
Our company, TaranisCo Advisory CC consults to some of the country's largest corporate and government entities and The Mentor Club will also assist these entrepreneurs with their own challenges, which they are facing.
Most lack clear strategic programmes of intervention and it is hoped that The Mentor Club will assist them in achieving their own targets required for Enterprise Development.
If you are interested, irrespective of whether you have a professional, trade, academic or business background, we would like you to register on our database.
How does it work?
To register as a Mentor is free of charge.
Each Mentor will be allocated to an entrepreneur under our Enterprise Development Programme and no specific qualification is required other than having a long-standing experience within your particular sector.
Mentors will offer to do a “Guidance Session” with a least one entrepreneur for one hour per month, at no charge and could choose to do more hours either with the same entrepreneur or others.
However, all “Mentoring Assignments” will be paid for by the hour, where the mentor is asked to do hands-on assistance in whatsoever shape or format.
When assigned to an entrepreneur, we will confirm with you prior to the meeting, all the necessary details including the number of hours required for the “Mentoring Assignment”.
The actual mentorship will take a hybrid format consisting of actual in-person meetings as well as online platforms.
All other administrative formalities will be processed during the time of your actual appointment since we would like the Club to operate on a very informal, yet structured basis.
We hope you will join us and become part of The Mentor Club revolution.
